Classroom Mini Program

For Elementary Schools

Our classroom mini program teaches students to have pride in themselves, their school community, surrounding community, as well as their global community. It has been proven that singing makes the brain ‘happy.’ This prepares students for learning. When a child is taught core values it may or may not stick. However, when a child learns a song about core values there is something different about it, they internalize it, they own it, and they are engaged.

Students will learn to sing in an ensemble, they will develop a sense of rhythm, will sing a varied repertoire of music from various styles of music and diverse cultures. They will be able to identify and describe music forms, including theme and variations. They will have an opportunity to create choreographed movements to help them integrate dance and music into a well-organized presentation or performance. They will be able to perform for their school or greater community.

This program enhances self-confidence and self-esteem. It teaches core values and fosters community pride. There is an added benefit for low performing readers. These students find success in Language Arts through music. They are able to memorize lyrics (otherwise known as poetry). English language learners develop good pronunciation of English words through repeated practice of choral reading/singing. This program develops vocabulary such as community, cooperation, compassion, trustworthiness, perseverance, self-discipline, responsibility, and understanding, just to name a few.

The program includes:

• 2 – ½ hour lessons with an Artist Teacher from This is Where I Live.
• 1 – Character Building Music Kit – Teacher’s Edition
• 1 – Singing 3 Minutes a Day Instructional handout, resource guide and lyric sheet
• 30 – Student CDs

You can choose either of our Character Building Music Kits; ‘This is Where I Live’ or ‘Together We Can Do Great Things” for your classroom.
